Can I see a SaunaSpa barrel sauna in person before buying?
Yes. Selected SaunaSpa models can be viewed through our authorized retail network across Quebec, including Tanguay locations throughout Greater Montreal and other regions. Tanguay Laval in Sainte-Rose, for example, has a SaunaSpa barrel sauna and cedar cold plunge on display. Our retail and distributor network extends beyond Quebec, including partners such as Kodiak Saunas, while SaunaSpa provides delivery and location-based installation support across Canada and in many U.S. locations. Because the models displayed vary by store, we recommend confirming the nearest barrel sauna display before visiting.
Does a SaunaSpa barrel sauna arrive as a DIY kit?
No. Our standard approach is very different from a boxed sauna kit. SaunaSpa barrel saunas are built and inspected at our Canadian facility and normally delivered fully assembled for professional placement and installation. This means the barrel, benches, door, windows, roofing and other agreed components are assembled by people who build these saunas every day rather than leaving the construction to the homeowner or a contractor seeing the product for the first time.
What if there is not enough access to bring an assembled sauna into my backyard?
Limited access does not necessarily rule out a SaunaSpa barrel sauna. For suitable properties, our installers use specialized placement equipment such as forklifts or cranes to position a completed sauna. Where an assembled unit simply cannot reach the final location, we can arrange professional on-site assembly instead. This makes barrel sauna installation possible in tight backyards, terraces and other challenging locations without turning the project into a DIY build. Sauna placement and access are reviewed as part of installation planning.
Should I choose an electric or wood-burning heater for my barrel sauna?
Both are available, but the right choice depends largely on your property and how you plan to use the sauna. Electric heaters are convenient, thermostatically controlled and normally require a dedicated 240 V circuit, with remote or app-control options available on some systems. Wood-burning heaters offer the traditional fire-based experience and can be attractive for cottages or properties where electrical capacity is limited, but they require a chimney, proper clearances, firewood handling and additional planning. Always confirm municipal rules and insurance requirements for a wood-burning appliance before ordering, as local regulations may determine whether it is permitted. Does a barrel sauna need a concrete foundation?
Usually not. A SaunaSpa barrel sauna needs a level, stable and well-drained base, but that can often be an existing concrete or interlocking-paver patio, a properly prepared crushed-stone or gravel area, patio slabs or a structurally suitable deck. The important part is supporting the sauna's cradles correctly and preventing uneven settling or persistent contact with wet soil. Direct long-term installation on grass or untreated topsoil is not recommended. This is also one of the most common questions barrel-sauna buyers ask when preparing their site.
